Literature Study: Tree planting in semi-arid regions – a delicate balance
Commissioned by Focal Point Nature-Based Solutions through the NWB Fund and conducted by FarmTree BV, this study investigated the hydrological effects of tree planting specifically in semi-arid regions, such as the White Volta basin in Ghana.
Using a literature review, field evidence, and the FarmTree Platform, tree planting scenarios and Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) systems were analyzed to evaluate various trade-offs.
-
Literature Study: Spices and fruit market study report
Commissioned by Focal Point Nature-Based Solutions through the NWB Fund, this study supports stakeholders in selecting suitable crops when implementing NbS measures.
The market study evaluates market demand and opportunities for selected fruits and spices cultivated by smallholder farmers in the Morogoro Urban and Mvomero districts in Tanzania. It recommends that parties implementing NbS solutions within IWRM prioritize market analysis prior to setting up nurseries or agroforestry plots. This ensures that selected crops align with actual market demand and supply chains, offering clear income prospects for farmers.

Carbon Credits: Voluntary Carbon Market
The goal of this VCM primer is to provide host country governments with a comprehensive overview (comprising 15 chapters) of the Voluntary Carbon Market.
This overview enhances government understanding and strategic engagement with the VCM. Target audiences for this primer include host country policymakers, policy advisors, and other public actors involved with the VCM. The chapters are available for PDF download in multiple languages (English, Bahasa Indonesia, Spanish, French, and Portuguese).

2. Community of Practice
Since 2023, we have been hosting regular Community of Practice meetings focused on NbS projects and recent developments. Participants from various Blue Deal countries exchange knowledge during these sessions, featuring presentations from both Blue Deal partners and external experts.
Recordings and presentations are available for most sessions. Below is an overview of the topics and their corresponding materials. For privacy reasons, recordings are only available to individuals with a Union of Water Authorities account. These can be accessed via the blue links with date indicators.
