Water Boards not only work in the Netherlands to ensure flood protection and sufficient clean water, but they also assist internationally in improving water management. This has become increasingly important due to climate change. Rising sea levels, heavy rainfall, drought, and salinization are all consequences of global warming. Integrated water management can help address these issues, making the expertise of Dutch water boards valuable abroad. There is also much to learn from these international projects, as there are no one-size-fits-all solutions for the climate problems in the Netherlands.
The NWB Fund believes it is important to be proud of the international work of the water boards. Therefore, starting in 2022, the fund will annually present the NWB Award to an international water management project. The winning team will receive 'eternal fame' in the form of publicity, a cash prize of €5,000 to be spent within the project, and a personal surprise. Each year, a theme will be chosen for the submissions.
How does it work if you want to participate?
This year’s theme is 'Pride in Action'. Project leaders of international water management projects can submit a short video (maximum 5 minutes) to the NWB Fund by October 1, showcasing why they are proud of their project. The challenge is to make the video so inspiring that others in the water management world—and beyond—will also feel proud. This can be done in various ways: through an insightful interview, an overview of the entire project, or focusing on a specific detail. The fund hopes for creative submissions, as long as the video is engaging. The project team that succeeds best in this will win the NWB Award 2022.
The award will be presented during the network day of the Dutch Water Authorities on November 1 in Utrecht. A professional jury will select three nominees from all submissions in advance. The audience will then choose the winner on the spot, just like at the Eurovision Song Contest. The jury consists of an executive board member, a member of the program committee, the director and program manager of the fund, along with an external communication expert and a young water education professional.
