Ghana: Feasibility Study for a voluntary carbon market project

This feasibility study aims to determine the feasibility of developing an NbS voluntary carbon project in the Upper East Region and Northern East Region of Ghana, with a focus on watershed restoration through tree planting. It was carried out in 2021/2022 with financial support from the NWB Fund.
The study found that a viable business case was feasible, making it possible to approach investors. Recently (2025), an investor showed interest and the first 500,000 trees (of the planned 6 million) were planted. If this proves to be successful and all the necessary formal steps have been taken, the project will go full scale.
The project was based on the Bongo reforestation project, which is described below.
