End of 2025 the NWB Fund decided to support the project ' Mali teintureries' . This is a two year project to improve waste water treatment of Bamako;s traditional textile dyeing companies (teintureries' in French) by ANGESEM, the national water agency in Mali.

The project encompasses several pilots for the collection and purification of waste water. The whole waste water chain is included, from the use of the water in the factories to the transportation, purification and discharge of the water. Experiments will be done with constructed wetlands (helofyten filters) close to the factories. This naturebased solution can provide a first step in purifcation of the waste water before it is transported to the waste water treatment plant.

The pilots are not only technical, attention is also paid to social and financial aspects to reduce the pollution of surface water. The textile dyeing factories are often owned by women, the work gives them economic independance. Therefor activities will be organised to involve specifically women in sustainable wateruse. This is also important for their health.
